At halftime of the AFC Championship Game, coach Don Shula turned to Bob Griese and asked if he was ready to play. Griese responded, "Yeah, I'm ready." Trailing 10-7 with 10:50 to play in the third quarter, Griese directed the offense on an 80-yard drive for the go-ahead touchdown. Jim Kiick scored from 2 yards out. After a blocked field goal by Maulty Moore, the Dolphins' next possession began at the Steelers' 49. kiick scored again from 3 yards for the clincher. The Steelers added a late touchdown on Terry Bradshaw's 12-yard pass to Al Young.
